Gochi Grape – meiji

A new flavour from a brand that I’ve tried and enjoyed before..

Gochi Grape ♥

The packaging is so cute and such a lovely inviting colour it really draws you to it on the shelf. Gochi have really well designed packaging, the balance between txt and pictures works well and I personally think that the mixture of English and Japanese txt works well.

IMG_0210

On the back weget another look at those juicy looking grapes

ꉂ (๑ › ₃ ू‹)₋₃

Whilst like a lot of Japanese sweetie packets it is full of data and statistics on the back it doesn’t feel like it is just that at all, it feels interesting and your attention on the information is drawn away as it melts into the background colour.

IMG_0217

The sweets themselves are a bit disappointing when you compare them to the packaging as they look a little grey and lifeless but I guess a bright pink sweet might have been a bit too much!!

Along with the colour they smell a little bitter and offputting aswell however they feel very squishy and soft and are coated in what looks like a thick grain sugar.

Thats enough describing… lets try!

IMG_0253

When you bite in it’s quite hard and needs quite a bit of tooth strength in order to get though in one swoop.

However the taste outweights this, its both sweet from the sugar coating but also bitter from the very overpowering taste of grape from the inside. It goes together well and mixes for an enjoyable sweet that if sucked instead of chewed lasts absolutely ages!

IMG_0259

I honestly can’t remember where I got these but I think around the price I’ve stated below (*・▽・*)

Found them on eBay! – http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Meiji-GOCHI-GUMMY-CANDY-Grape-Flavor-VERY-tasty-JAPANESE-candy-Collagen-3900-mg-/121361523697?hash=item1c41b5e3f1:g:njAAAOSwq5lTmGlA

Original cost to me – $4.50

178 calories per pack

Taste rating – 8.5/10

(Yummy and grapey but I’d prefer slightly less bitter.)

Thank you for reading!! I welcome any feedback<3

Tubu Gummy – Kasugai

As soon as this arrived I couldn’t wait to review it, there is nothing that gets me more excited than a good jelly bean ゜+.(。´>艸<)*.☆

Tubu Gummy

The packaging is so happy! Its really well designed – the layout is perfect it shows all of the different flavours and there is a window at the front of the packaging too which is such a lovely feature.

IMG_9264

The back is less exciting but if we look above the dotted line towards the top it draws our attention to two of the best things about this treat.

1 – That cute little jelly bean mascot    ∗˚(* ˃̤൬˂̤ *)˚∗

2 – On the left it explains that the packet is resealable, a truly understated feature of any product. Yup thats right this gives you the ability to eat a couple and then pop them in your pocket without fear of the goodies leaking out!

IMG_9271

Inside we are able to release those cute little jelly beans that we got a peak of earlier, the colours are very vivid and work well together.

The beans come in 5 different shades and as a whole it smells like a big mis-match of sugar!

I can’t wait any longer, lets try these…..

IMG_9285

We have 5 different flavours

Apple – Orange – Grape – Peach – Muscat

Apple – This tastes incredible – it tastes just like apple, but a sweet apple where the taste lingers long after its finished.

Orange – Its a really juicy orange, not very sweet and it does taste a bit “candied” – you can tell its a man made flavour but still super nice.

Grape – This is so strong, its nice but a tad bitter. I can’t fault it in terms of tasting like grape though as it truly does.

Peach – I was so disappointed with this, it tastes good don’t get me wrong, but I wanted it to be amazing. Its more like the rough outside of a peach rather than the juicy sweet middle.

Muscat – Surprisingly good! It has the immediate tartness that you expect from Muscat and then your hit with a little burst of flavour -very lovely.

IMG_9293

I got these as part of a monthly subscription box and I’m likely to buy more….

I found them on eBay alongside a soda version?!? – http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kasugai-Tubu-Gummy-Basic-Soda-Japan-Snack-Dagashi-Candy-/271832319285?var=&hash=item3f4a780535:m:me9mrNh_rCs1yc-dy-MG47A

Taste rating – 8.5/10

(Really yummy, grape and peach let it down a little though)

Pokemon “Taste Evolves” gummy candy – Lotte

Candy and Pokemon? A winning combination surely!! Today we have a limited sweet that was released for the pokemon X&Y movie.

Pokemon “Taste Evolves” Candy

The front of the packet is so bright and cheerful, I’m not a huge fan of Hoopa but look at Pikachu’s glorious face (≡^∇^≡)

It also explains the “evolves” part, showing how if you combine singular flavours then new ones are supposed to form… we shall see!

IMG_8895

The back is very wordy, not much to see here. The only things of note are that it shows you some evolutions.

Theres Pikachu + thunder stone = Raichu

plus two other examples where there evolutions are hidden under the flap.

IMG_8902

Inside we have lots of gummy circles in three different colours/flavours, they also make multiple other flavours though!

Soda, Strawberry & Melon –

Soda tastes kinda bland on its own, it doesn’t really taste of anything in particular unfortunately. Strawberry is very nice!  Its not a strong or a weak taste, quite mild and yummy!                    Melon is my favourite, its very sweet and has a clear distinct flavour that matches.

Strawberry & Soda = Pineapple

Pineapple.. Not the first thought that comes to mind but not far off!! More like tropical.. such a surprise as I didn’t expect it to work, very impressed!

Soda & Melon = Melon Soda

Melon Soda also works very well. The fact that melon was so spot on means that adding the almost flavourless soda just gives it a little kick.

Melon & Strawberry = Watermelon

Watermelon unfortunately didn’t work quite as well as the other two, the combination still tastes really good but not quite watermelon more like melon coated with a light taste of strawberry.

I got these from eBay ^_^

I found them on eBay but they are a little expensive when you factor in shipping – http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lotte-Pokemon-XY-Z-Movie-Hoopa-Pikachu-Taste-Changing-Gummy-Sweets-JPN-Import-/321962693273?hash=item4af678d299:g:9U4AAOSwv-NWXMXE

Original cost to me – $4.50

10 calories per individual sweet

Taste rating – 8/10

(A really nice idea, plus from a great franchise, just a shame all the flavours aren’t quite right)

Gochi Cola – Meiji

Todays offering excites me as it resembles the bags I would always target in Japan in their convenience stores

Gochi Cola ♡

These are grab bags which are usually hung in racks at eye level to temp you in, and for those who are a little skeptical until you see the actual product these also have a handy little window on the front where you can pear into the bag.

IMG_8298

The back of the bag pretty much mimics the front – its bright and eye catching and not too overfilled with information. They manage to fit everything in without overloading the space available.

Enough about the bag lets get inside it.

IMG_8307

*riiiip*

Inside are approximately a dozen large round ovals. They have a soft squishy gummy feel and are coated in large grain sugar.

They’re a lot bigger than I was expecting which is nice as it means an individual sweet lasts longer<3

The smell is strong and rich light a fresh glass of cola thats just been poured.

IMG_8324

Biting through it is a little touch because of the thickness, the first thing to hit you is the taste of sugar. I’m not really sure how to best explain it, its not super sweet sugar its a little more timid and complimentary to the cola aftertaste and gummy inside.

The sugar does dampen the cola flavour quite a bit unfortunately but they are still really nice

[>=<]

IMG_8336

I got these from a monthly subscription box 🙂

I haven’t been able to find cola ones online but there are grape ones on eBay and lemon ones on various websites.

Original cost to me – unknown

160 calories per pack

Taste rating – 8.5/10

(Yummy, but too thick sugar and not enough cola)

Tsum Tsum Gummi – Bandai

A candy that I am simply overflowing with today1

Tsum Tsum Gummi – Grape Flavour

Sweets that are based on Disney have to be amazing right? Well at least adorable. Tsum Tsum’s are huge in Japan at the moment so I wasn’t surprised when I learnt that they had made a new goodie on this basis.

The front of the packaging showcases lots of the characters and also shows some of them in pure purple I wonder what this could mean…

IMG_8037

The back is disappointingly normal and conventional and just shows all of the normal necessary information.

Hang on wait… I appear to have overlooked that there is a small packet on the back, lets come back to that later on…

IMG_8040

Inside the packet there is a whole host of Tsum Tsum characters.

I want to make it clear that these did not all come in one packet, I opened three packs in order to get one of each of the characters available and then just kinda pushed all the extras to the side.

They have a powdery cover which gives a bit of a strange feeling you don’t expect to have to lick and rehydrate your lips when eating gummy sweets.

They are red grape flavour, not much to say here its not unplesent but not something to get excited over, their main selling point is their adorable shape.

IMG_8018

Taking a step back you may remember that additional packet on the back of the main bag? It contains collectable stickers.

Thats right alongside the adorable sweets themselves you also get Tsum Tsum stickers which will last a lot longer.

There are 10 different sets to collect.

IMG_8060

I bought these from AmiAmi and got an entire box of 14 packs!!

I haven’t been able to find them online yet but they were only recently released so I’ll still post the AmiAmi link incase they are restocked – http://www.amiami.com/top/detail/detail?gcode=FIG-COL-9188&page=top%2Fsearch%2Flist%3Fs_keywords%3Dgummi%24pagemax%3D40%24getcnt%3D0%24pagecnt%3D1

Original cost to me – 109yen per pack

98 calories per pack

Taste rating – 7/10

Cuteness rating – 10/10

(One of the most adorable sweets I’ve seen)
