Purple Potato KitKat – Nestle

Yet another weird and mysterious flavour from Japan.

Purple Potato KitKat

These are not only a weird flavour but they are also limited edition and are only avaliable in Okinawa. They are avaliable in small box’s of 5 (as pictured) or bigger gift boxes of 12.

The design follows suit with all of the other KitKat boxes from Japan. Its a lovely rich purply-pink colour and features images of tropical flowers are scenery – well Okinawa is a beach island after all!

IMG_0627

Japan is big on omiyage and so on the back of their packaging they almost always include a message section so tha they are easy to give as gifts without having to wrap the box.

Other than the message section the box also features an explination of the Okinawan purple sweet potato. Its best to google it if you want to understand it better – its actually quite interesting.

Inside the box there are 5 individual KitKat’s and they look so cute! (>y<)

They look adorable with their flowery backdrops and vibrant edges. They also each display their own individual calorie information and message sections so one box of 5 can be split up to cover collegues or family.

Taste time: its… not really like anything I’ve had before. Its kind of like a black jelly tot but with wafer in the middle. Its a little bitter with a weird after taste that lingers in your mouth even after the smallest bite.

Its kinda plesent but also not. I wouldn’t want to eat a whole KitKat let alone a whole box. I wouldn’t want people to be put off from buying them but I’d search around and get one on its own before comitting to a lot in one go.

IMG_0691

I bought them from Yahoo Japan Auctions a few months ago.

I can’t find a box smaller than 12 on eBay – If you want that many you can get them here… http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kit-Kat-Japan-Purple-Potato-12-mini-bars-from-Nestle-Japan-/272187612835?hash=item3f5fa55ea3:g:cvwAAOSwxcRW9ll2

Original cost to me – 450yen

64 calories per individual KitKat

Taste rating –4/10

(I’m all up for new weird flavours but this was a little too much for me)

Raspberry KitKat – Nestle

Another of Japan’s many KitKat flavours today..

Raspberry KitKat

A lovely vibrant pink colour covers the box, the top corner shows some of the freshest raspberries that have probably ever existed and are so tempting.

The box has the rip/opening at the top of the packaging for easy access.

These were for sale all over the place in Japan so I don’t believe that they are region specific (yay!)

IMG_9517

Just a really quick look at the back as there isn’t much to talk about – we have the usual information in relation to ingredients and stats for the ingredients, theres also a diagram explaining the contents.

As always there is the cute message box on the back      。(>ω<。)

IMG_9544

Inside the box there are three individually wrapped KitKat’s – these are in a pale pink colour and out of all of the different designs they look quite sophisticated.

These would make the perfect gift for someone who you want to experience a little of your hobby but you don’t want to “cram” the cuteness down their necks.

(For example I bought some back for my nan) ♥

IMG_9566

Inside the colour scheme continues..

I was a little off-put by the sickly sweet smell – its very strong and definitely fits in with all the “pink”.

The inside of each layer of the wafer is also pink which was a nice surprise. It tastes really nice, the pink chocolate is thin and creamy and it has hints of very strong raspberry in each bite from the little pieces embedded. Its a nice taste not too strong not too weak.

Good one Japan!! One thing I will say though is take around 4 bites to each each stick, its overpoweringly sweet if you eat too much at once.

IMG_9578

I bought these from a 7/11 in Japan.

This is currently the cheapest on eBay – http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kitkat-Raspberry-flavour-Chocolates-Japan-Limited-Edition-12-Pack-/161983645299?hash=item25b6fa4673:g:ONAAAOSwqu9VUwK9

Original cost to me – 169yen

64 calories per individual packet

Taste rating –7.5/10

(Super Yummy. Very Pink. A little too sweet.)

Cookie & Cream KitKat – Nestle

Another absolute gem of an idea which is available in Japan

Cookie & Cream KitKat

At first I thought that these were limited edition but they have since popped up online with different packaging so heres hoping that these are now a regular item for sale.

This is a grab bag and is quite big, whilst most of the cover space is taken up with the traditional KitKat logo the other half shows a tempting picture of whats to come inside….

IMG_9407

The back is so cute, these three characters appear to be nestles mascots for winter products as they showed up on the ice cream aero before.

The colours and contrasts are lovely and it would certainly catch your eye on a shelf. Although so would its description.. Its a cookie and cream flavour KitKat!!

IMG_9436

Inside the bag there were 13 individually wrapped mini Kitts, each is adorned with a character proudly showing off the title of whats inside..

There is also an area on the back where you can write a message and then pop it in with a parcel you send or on the work desk of a collegue.

o(*>ω<*)o

IMG_9440

The most important bit is of course inside the packaging though. My first thoughts on opening this was “It smells like heaven!” – and it does smell heavenly!!

It tastes mainly of cream, really lovely cream though. It balances so well with the crunchy vanilla wafer inside the KitKat. Its flecked throughout with little pieces of chocolate/cookie which are swallowed up in the cream taste but are just about noticeably there (and good).

IMG_9473

I got these from eBay back in October/November and I’ve been waiting so long for them, they are so worth it!!

This is the cheapest I’ve been able to find the whole bag online – http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Release-Nestle-kit-kat-Cookie-and-Cream-13pcs-from-Japan-free-shipping-SAL-/271942976056?hash=item3f51108238:g:tlYAAOSwBLlVdqFx

Original cost to me – $9.00

64 calories per individual

Taste rating – 9/10

(I want these down every supermarket aisle. NOW.)

Strawberry Cheesecake KitKat – Nestle

Its been a while since the last KitKat review so here we go!

Strawberry Cheesecake KitKat

The strawberry cheesecake KitKat’s are available in the Yokohama prefecture. There are some cheesecake ones which are supposed to go in the oven and melt a little, I’m not 100% sure these are the ones but I have others which I know are definitely suitable for the oven so I’ll do those at another time.

The box itself is quite large and is for presentation – its quite mature packaging and is the kind of thing you would buy as a gift.

IMG_8558

The back is pretty plain and continues its sophisticated theme – the writing is in a lovely font and its in very simple toner colours.

I had to rush these out because I noticed the best before date (òロó)

(I did this review whilst they were in date – just – but I forgot to post it in time)

IMG_8572

With the lid opens it reveals lots of individually wrapped goodness – 12 individual bars to be precise!

I really like how the big boxes are divided in half and that the inside is also decorates to continue the theme.

IMG_8614

A quick look at the individual packs – each one has the calorie count which is a nice touch and on the back there is an area where you can write a message.

These are great for taking to work for handing out with a positive message when your colleagues are having bad days. ♪

IMG_8620

This time round the KitKat’s themselves are plain looking, a milky cream colour with a cream wafer biscuit inside.

I was a little disappointed with these – the chocolate tastes a little flowery and fragrant but not really of strawberry. More a very sweet plain chocolate. The wafer tastes a little of strawberry but again more fragrant and plain – Altogether its a little bit of a disappointment.

IMG_8627

I bought these when I was in Japan earlier in the year.

I found them on eBay if anyone is interested – http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Nestle-Kit-Kat-mini-from-Japan-Free-Shipping-apple-raisen-azuki-west-east-/252190934660?var=&hash=item3ab7c04684:m:mrMBYnFgcnXxgq6L7YrELNg

Original cost to me – approx 500yen for the box

64 calories per individual pack

Taste rating – 4/10

(Great idea – poor follow through)

“Hoji Cha” Roasted Tea – KitKat

Today we have the first of many KitKat reviews to come!

A huge hit in Japan KitKat’s are made in many flavours we simply couldn’t imagine in the UK.

“Hoji Cha” or Roasted Tea flavour

\(*T▽T*)/

Lets start by taking a look at the box – first the front:

Shows you exactly what to expect (no nasty surprises!)

IMG_6121

Then the back:

I love that there is a message space on the back for these to be able to be given as gifts ♥

It also tells you about the the tea on the back…

IMG_6138

I can’t wait anymore!!! Lets get into the box!

Inside are 5 small individually wrapped KitKats – each again has its own “message” section on the back so if you wanted to break the box down into lots of little presents or gift one to a friend you can personalise it.

IMG_6146

The KitKat itself is made up of two small bars in the traditional format.

KitKats are made up of wafter surrounded in chocolate, a perfect mid-morning snack     ∩(︶▽︶)∩

It tastes perfect.

From the first bite there is a very rich taste of tea, its not too strong and very pleasant. If you are planning to eat this whilst drinking a cup of tea I think it would be a little overwhelming so definitely something to try solo.

IMG_6162

I originally bought these in Kyoto – I didn’t see them anywhere else whilst in Japan and generally could only find them in souvenir shops.  ╥﹏╥

I have managed to find them on eBay line for anyone interested. Just search “roasted tea kitkat” (be sure to search internationally!!)

Original cost 297yen (for the whole box)

64 calories per individual pack

Taste rating – 10/10

(although not my favourite Japanese sweet, they taste exactly how they should!)
